ABSTRACT

Objective To provide suggestions on how to improve the ability of rehabilitation nursing by investigating the current situation of clinical nurses' knowledge, skills and cognition of rehabilitation nursing and analyzing the influential factors. Methods According to the cross-sectional survey method, a self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate the clinical nurses' current status of knowledge and skills, cognition of rehabilitation nursing.Totally 278 nurses from 7 hospitals were included in this study. Results The scores of clinical nurses' knowledge, skeills and cognition of rehabilitation nursing were 11.13 ±3.29 and 33.27 ±3.92. Variables associated with the scores of the rehabilitation nursing are age, nursing professional title, work duration, and degree of education. Conclusion The clinical nurses had positive attitude on rehabilitation, but their knowledge and skill were insufficient. Measures should be taken to improve nurses'ability of rehabilitation nursing.

ABSTRACT

Objective To assess the limit of detection(LOD),sensitivity and specificity of collodial gold immunochrom-atography(GICA)products purchased from two manufacturers under special environmental conditions. Methods The sensitivity and specificity of GICA made in InTec Products, INC.and Beijing WANTAI Biological Pharmacy Enterprise Co., LTD.for detecting HBsAg, anti-HCV and anti-Treponema pallidum(TP)serum samples were evaluated under different conditions(conventional facilities, simulated hot and humid environments and simulated low pressure and hypoxia environments)according to the protocol of kits.LOD was estimated by detecting the standard materials obtained from the National Center for Clinical Laboratory(NCCL)of China. Results LOD for syphilis improved from 2 NCU to 1 NCU using GICA from InTec Products in hot and humid environments. The extreme conditions did not influence the specificity of GICA from the two manufacturers in the course of detection of clinical samples, but the sensitivity of detection was affected. For InTec Products, the sensitivity of hepatitis B virus and syphilis detection was improved in hot and humid environments, but was reduced in low pressure and hypoxia environments. In addition, the sensitivity of hepatitis C virus detection by InTec Products decreased in hot and humid environments. As for WANTAI products, the sensitivity of hepatitis B virus detection was reduced under extreme conditions and that of hepatitis C virus was only influenced by hot and humid environments. Interestingly, extreme conditions had no impact on the sensitivity of syphilis. Conclusion LOD of InTec Products is better than that of the WANTAI products for detection of standard materials from blood-borne diseases. In the process of detecting clinical samples, the sensitivity of the two manufacturers′GICA is influenced by extreme conditions, with the specificity unchanged.Overall, WANTAI products are more stable than those of InTec, and are also less influenced by extreme conditions.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between the number of colonies and the luminous intensity of two kinds of platelets contamination bacteria,Escherichia coli(ECO)and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(PAE)in single platelets, plasma and phosphate buffered salines(PBS), and to explore their growth and proliferation in different biological fluid media. Methods The two luminescent bacteria were constructed before the correlations between the number of colonies and the luminous intensity in different media in vitro were observed with a small animal bioluminescence imaging instrument, and correlation analysis was carried out.By recording the luminous intensity at serial time points in different media, a growth curve was drown to reflect the proliferation of bacteria. Results There was a significant positive correlation between the number of colonies and luminous intensity of ECO and PAE in single platelets, plasma and PBS.The larger the number of colonies was,the stronger the luminous intensity was.The results indicated that single platelets significantly inhibited the proliferation of ECO and PAE,and that plasma also had some inhibitory effect, but not so strong. Conclusion For the two luminous bacteria, luminous intensity can represent the growth and proliferation of bacteria.Single platelets have obvious inhibitory effect on the growth of ECO and PAE, and the plasma also has some inhibitory effect, but the effect is not so strong as that of single platelets.

ABSTRACT

Carotid-cavernous fistulas (CCFs) are abnormal arteriovenous anastamoses between the carotid artery and the cavernous sinus. These fistulas may be classified by cause (spontaneous or traumatic), flow velocity (high or low), or pathogenesis (direct or indirect). The most commonly adopted classification is that described by Barrow based on arterial supply. Traumatic CCFs are almost always direct shunts between the internal carotid artery (ICA) and the cavernous sinus. General features of CCFs, which may be apparent with any lesion, including bruit, headache, loss of vision, altered mental status and neurological deficits. Some fistulae may present primarily with hemorrhage before any evaluation can be performed. However, hemiparesis has been rarely observed. Only a literature review of Murata et al reported a case of hemiparesis caused by posttraumatic CCF, in which the fistula resulted in venous hypertension and subsequent brainstem congestion. While in our case, cerebral infarction was caused by total steal of the blood flow. The patient recovered after occlusion of the fistula with a detachable balloon.
